What is the largest game you have played in or witnessed? Extra Crispy 27th Jan 2015 02:23:47 I saw an ancients game with pike blocks. Massive. Each block was 4" square and packed with figs. Hundreds for each block. Each player commanded a dozen such blocks, and there were maybe 5 or 6 a side. Impressive. I asked the guy how ling ti took to paint. Then he showed me his secret. He painted the sides of the block, the front of the front rank, the rear of the rear rank and the tops of everybody. SO 90% was just black primer. But based en masse they all looked painted. He said he only needed 2-3 hours to paint a block. Sold me on 6mm. Mark "Extra Crispy" Severin |
What is the largest game you have played in or witnessed? dourpuritan 27th Jan 2015 07:50:18 Largest 6mm game was an 1870 battle about ten years ago. It was somewhat slow and grinding, which is one reason I have welcomed BBB with open arms. Currently a huge WWII Eastern Front game going on - 12'x6' table. However WWII does not float my boat so I'm not involved. A little goes a long way |
What is the largest game you have played in or witnessed? Roughage 27th Jan 2015 09:45:32 Our refight of Towton was the largest game I have played. We had close to 18000 figures on an 18' x 4' table. It was fun, but never again! :) http://towton-2011.blogspot.co.uk/ 'A stitch in time saves precious bodily fluids' |

Standard User Posts: 12 Fig.ht 27th Jan 2015 10:51:34 These are great replies and info. :o) We always see reports of 4' x 6' or 6' x 8' tables, and I was thinking that there must be much larger games that have occurred. It is a pity that there doesn't seem a really 'big' game organised for the Battle of Waterloo, it might even have made the press or TV and been a boost for the hobby generally.

Standard User Posts: 12 Dr Mike 27th Jan 2015 02:58:32 We did a Trebia refight with 3,800 figures Towton as mention I saw with 18,000 And I think two years ago we had Edghill put on at The Joy of Six which fielded either 34,000 or 38,000 figures if memory serves. |
Standard User Posts: 13 TimR 27th Jan 2015 05:41:21 Royal Armouries Leeds are doing some Napoleonic events in June and it look as though wargaming will be part of them. Hopefully the chance to put some games on large and small to entertain the masses. Watch this space......... What is the largest game you have played in or witnessed? Extra Crispy 28th Jan 2015 02:41:39 I try to avoid games like that these days. While visually impressive my experience is they end up being boring games. Becasue at that size all the maneuver is over and you usually just plow ahead and hope for the best. Probably realistic (that was life for most lower level commanders) jst not much fun as a game. I played an Aspern Essling game like that - 30' of table but what I got was 30" of infantry wedged in between other troops: just go ahead and roll dice. Not for me, I did play in a 15mm "Bridge Too Far" game where I was holding the last bridge waiting for XXX Corps. Tables was 6 x 18' I think. But it was really just 4 connected games. But I had fun as I had lots of choices to make. It's very hard to make a game that size interesting IMO Mark "Extra Crispy" Severin |
