DBA Republican Romans

My romans arrived last week, and dispite having a wedding to go to, and various other stuff making life interesting, I've managed to get one element's worth of blades painted. Unfortunatly, I forgot to order bases (whoops), so they are still on the painting stands.

Once I get my act together and base them I will give them the final tidy up. I'm basing them on the 25mm size bases, so all these dudes on one base will look like a decent unit.

(Yes those are 6mm space orks from 2nd ed Space Marine in the background. A group of us play netepic.)

Those look spendid, and I am glad you didn't base them because your paint base is so intriguing.  Are these just normal MDF game bases glued into a 'T'?

Those stands are the most useful hobby accessory I have ever made. They are made from some old trellis timber glued together with building glue.

I attach bases,(or in the case of my Romans, strips) along the top with blue tack.

And I drilled holes along the top for nails to make it easier to paint things like vehicals were you kind of need to get underneath.

Because the nails can be lifted out it makes it easier to get around vehical model.

I've painted 6mm stuff for a long time, and these stands have been one of my best investments.

Chris, in the sincerest form of flattery, I am going to shamelessly steal your method!

Thought I'd better post an update.

I have only gotten half way through painting my Romans. I started a new job a couple of weeks ago, so life has been a bit busy.

Today I set up some of what I have painted on the bases,(didn't glue them) so I could get a feel for how the army will look when done. I'm quite pleased with the result.

My only real concern is the the spears and blades look too much alike.

Finally finished these guys.

The last couple of months have been a bit busy, and I havn't really had as much time as I would have like to paint, but now they are done.
