I've just ordered the Austrians for this project so I thought I'd update where I'm up to with my Prussians and the whole thing. I'm using Volley and Bayonet as the ruleset for this first game and see where things go from there.

Any thoughts and feedback would be appreciated muchly. (There are more pictures under tags of Lobositz and SYW)

Hi,

A great project to begin the SYW. I have always had a soft spot for V&B for this period, and Lobositz is a good battle to start with.  My only point would be on Austrian flags. The idea that the Hungarian regiments had different flags is an old Wargames convention, but originates in a misunderstanding. After Maria Theresa came to the throne, there was a short period when the Holy Roman Emperor was not a Hapsburg, but the Elector of Bavaria. During this time the Austrians had to take he Imperial insignia off their flags, and so replaced them with a design reflecting their senior remaining title, that of ruler of Hungary. These flags are the type normally thought of as Hungarian, but they were intended for everyone.  However, when the Elector of Bavaria died in 1745 he was replaced with Maria Theresa's husband, and the Imperial Eagle returned to the flags, and Imperial Yellow was the universal field colour. It is not clear how many regiments ever had the green colours, but it is unlikely to have been many. That said, in a perfect example of wargamer she contrariness, all my Hungarians have Green colours!  Go figure!

Cheers for that :) I'd intended on going for Green for the Hungarian Regiments if nothing else but for a bit of variety. With the flag packs coming with 2 colours for each regiment I've been able to pick them for the Prussians purely based on the variety factor.
