I've mounted the figures on 20mm x 20mm bases to allow some flexibility for the homemade rules I have bouncing around in my head. Really starting to get the hang of 6mm painting and am truly starting to enjoy it. (Just need to settle on one period!) Just a suggestion, but over time you might discover (as some have) that using small bases becomes tedious, awkward and time consuming in play, set up, take down, etc. Base using the Polemos guidlines (60mm x 30mm) and you will find gaming a little easier, regardless of which actual rule system you use.
