What other rule sets do people most commonly use? Extra Crispy 18th May 2015 06:18:56 I just played my first game of Might & Reason. It was a big game with 6 players, using a scenario The Battle of Torgau. Units in M&R are two bases each so I just used two 60x30 bases for each unit. Looked great and despite mis-playing some of the rules, think it is a very good system overall. Mark "Extra Crispy" Severin |

Standard User Posts: 47 Spangenhelm 21st Sep 2015 09:23:49 Due to the sudden and involuntary departure of all my armies and my lead mountain, I am starting over completely. There will be a lot more 6mm in my life and far less 15mm. So what follows is the plan, but subject to revision: 1.) Peninsular War, but using the one stop shop right on this site for the two armies, rules, bases, standards and painting guides, so not really applicable. Listed because it is a top priority in order to get gaming again. 2.) SYW - using an old copy of Final Argument of Kings, http://kabinettskriege.blogspot.com/2013/12/game-review-final-argument-of-kings.html http://deepfriedhappymice.com/html/rd_final_argument_of_kings.html using the larger bases and three ranks of troops. 3.) Great War - Probably Square Bashing. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/24644/square-bashing-1914-1918 I like the feel of those rules for that scale. I'll need to graft something on to justify pushing little biplanes around however. 4.) possibly L'Art de la Guerre to do Biblicals or Hellenistics. http://www.artdelaguerre.fr/en/index.php Not terribly likely but I think the rules scale and 6mm would be very nice for the big wars of antiquity. Perhaps the Folk Wandering period instead, but 15mm still attracts me for Huns. I want the little skulls on the horsetail banners to show. 5.) possibly Blitzkrieg Commander for WWII Eastern Front. http://www.blitzkrieg-commander.com/default.aspx?Area=BKC It sort of depends on how the WWII line develops. If I don't love what I see I would probably double down on Great War instead. I'd much prefer the early war, as I have played the late war to death years ago, but it was fun. 6mm post-Kursk could be fun. Ditto North Africa for that matter... 6.) possibly Ga Pa for GNW. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/14097/ga-pa Something has to set the period and the rules far enough apart from SYW for me to do this though. I am still learning the rules and the period so as yet undecided. One of the lures here is the possibility of building some of the smaller ships for amphibious operations. I saw a lot of art works in Russia showing close coordination between land battles and naval support. |
Standard User Posts: 21 jbickley00 9th Oct 2015 07:46:13 My breakdown by period is: ancients - commands and colors; medieval - dba; napoleonics- napoleons battles; ACW and FPW I use volley and bayonet; ww1-present i use fistful of tows. For the WSS/GNW I use Warfare in the Age of Reason, with the WSS mods proposed on warflag. But in fairness I like modeling the difference between volley fire and platoon fire. For the English civil war I use a rules set called forlorn hope which an honest purveyor of fine small scale miniatures talked me into years ago. My gaming group wants to do ECW Polemos though, so I might change. 30 years war is on the horizon. And I have loads of samurai based up for pike and shotte.
