I think that Peter the owner of Baccus plans to re-release the old rules but only as a PDF, rather than as a hard copy. As I understand it this will happen soon. At some point in the future I would like to do a new 'set' covering this war. This will not be a full set of rules but a supplement to one of the other sets, probably the SYW set. It will probably also be PDF only.

Administrator Posts: 894 peter 17th Jan 2015 07:11:53 Nick is correct, I am planning to re-release the GNW rules this year in our new format of download, Rules onna Stick and hard copy print from Lulu. In the fullness of time there will also be a GNW app. I've not been doing much on the rules of late as the work leading up the launch of the new site has taken up all my spare hours, however once the dust settles down here I will be getting back to layout work and I really want to get both Nick's GNW and SYW rules out this year. I have plans. I am dangerous when I have plans... |
Standard User Posts: 4 An Old Scaley 16th Apr 2015 06:11:33 Ridiculous length of time to reply for which apologies. However strikes me that were it to be a supplement the appropriate place would be "Chosen Men, well Disposed" as they are at about the same scale or is the forthcoming SYW set going to subsume the wholof the early 17th Century? Well better late than never :) No the SYW set won't subsume everything and yes maybe we will go with CMWD. In short which ever we go with we are talking quite some time away and of course we will have to play test it. But at the moment I am thinking that it will probably be easier to use the SYW set rather than CMWD. This is mainly because with any WSS set you kind of have to add things to do the GNW. While with a SYW set you kind of take things away. I am not sure that makes sense but perhaps think about skirmishing light cavalry and charging infantry (i.e. infantry relying mainly on charging rather than firing) - so GNW Cossacks and similar cavalry plus Swedish infantry. Neither of these are used in the WSS so you would need new rules to cover them. But in the SYW rules you already have skirmishing light cavalry (Cossacks, Hussars, etc) and charging infantry (Highlanders and the Prussians when they are using bayonet charges). So while the rules for GNW light horse and charging infantry might be different (they probably will be for the infantry but the light horse will probably be the same) we are talking just about modifying an existing rule.
So probably it will be easier to go with the SYW set but we will see :) |
