Hello Brad,

No You tube broadcasts about Polemos that I am aware of. However if you look up 'Meeples and Miniatures' then they do both written and podcast reviews on some of the Polemos titles.

Hope it helps.

Very nice blog!  You guys in the UK must all have been given classes on web design as they are all outstanding !  I am still as yet awaiting my delivery.  It has been about 2 weeks but I ordered right after the holiday and its not like I live in France.  I live across the Atlantic in fly over country where we all have shotguns and listen to country music :)

I cannot wait to paint them.  I have seen a few youtube videos, saw a bunch of things online by people who hate, love and are indifferent to painting 6mm.  The thing is the people that dislike it I think are more of the ones who paint larger figures in a more artistic way.  The people that like to paint them like the overall effect and arent concerned with each button, ranks on collars etc.  I fall into the second category only because I am not skilled enough to be ever satisfied with my work in the first category.  I am jealous of great painters and enjoy the look of a beautiful painstakingly painted figure.  I know my limitations so usually paint in a production line technique with few colors.  I can see the union guys getting 5 or 7 at most.  I have no trouble finding the patience to paint up 96 figs at a go.  When I paint a 28mm figure it takes me weeks and I end up hating the job ive done and not painting for weeks after...

Thanks very much, most kind.

With regard to painting 6mm, there are lots of different ways of doing it.  The guides on the website are pretty good, as is the technique of Doctor Mike (basically to use a basecoat of the predominant colour with a black wash with a sepia wash at the end to pull it all together).

I can also recommend Steve Jones' blog and here and here.  He explains it really well and gets excellent results: the man paints tartan on his 6mm Highlanders...and you can see it!

There was also a good article in Battlegames 23 by Bob Edmondson, with the focus on looking good in absolute minimum time - highly recommended.  Incidentally, the Simplicity in Practice rules in the same issue are really rather good too, and brilliant for playing small horse and musket games on a little board.

You are quite right. The objective with 6mm is the overall impression of a battle going on rather than 12 lads out on a pubcrawl. From wargamer distance (2 to 3 feet or more) the most important thing is the overall colour scheme of the uniform, not the number of pips on an officer's shoulder strap.

A little goes a long way

Wow I cant believe I got those ACW Packs that long ago!   I was just thinking it was last year.  Well kids, work moving all over damn time gets away from me.   They painted up pretty nicely once I got the rythm going.  Hopefully the Syw guys work out as well!   I guess I need to buy some more ACW figures and finally get that project done as well shoot.

Hi,

I nave read through the Polemos Md'E rules a few times, but not played them yet. I have a question regarding the turn order and contact phase.

In the turn order section, the sequence includes Tempo Player moves, Tempo player contact phase. Now, as I see it, all movement is completed before starting the contact phase - including movement into contact. The player then decides in which order to resolve all moves that ended in contact with the enemy.

Then we come to the contact phase. The first part of which is, A) Advance to contact. So apparently troops involved are not already in contact, which doesn't fit with my reading of the movement phase, as troops involved in the contact phase should already be in contact? It seems to me that movement into contact with the enemy during the movement phase decides which troops trigger the Contact phase part of the turn. But the "Advance to contact" part of the contact phase implies that troops do not move into contact with the enemy during the movement phase.

I'm not sure how this part of the rules works, so can anyone who has played these rules please advise me on the correct sequence of events?

Thanks in advance

Biker500

I've played DBMM in 15mm. For those that may not know the base width for 15 mm games is 40mm so when I was told about 6mm games I thought that a reduced base width would be used so at a show I was watching a game o Shorp Practice Napoleonic I saw someone I knew playing DBMM using 6mm figures, but mounted on the 25mm game size base width of 60mm and the figures were mounted in 2 ranks rather than the normal 1 rank. The Macedonian pike Phalanx looked very impressive..

I haven't seen a polemeos Napoleonic game played so I have no idea what a 2 hour game would need S far as figures go.. For 6mm figures  why is a unit size, base width. I've not seen a basic idea of the game.
