ANCIENTS

The far-ranging Ancients wargames period is certainly one of the most popular amongst wargamers. It allows you to field a huge range of troop types and 'specials', from the solid legions of Rome to the Chariots of the Pharaohs. The sheer variety of troop types available and the colourful and diverse armies available make Ancient wargaming a marvelous spectacle.

Figure Format
Most close order infantry such as legionaries and hoplites are based four figures to a strip, facing forward, on a 20mm frontage. A few are mounted in file, and are designed to be based in larger groups side by side, thus enabling you to construct large deep blocks. The best examples of these are the Macedonian Phalangites and Persian Immortals, both of which use this format. More open order troops such as Gallic Warband and Spanish Scutarii are based three figures to a strip, facing forward. Skirmishers are based four to a strip in file and are designed to be split and based singly in a more dispersed formation on the base.

Mounted troops (three to a strip), are based in file for cutting and rebasing. Foot Command strips, are included in all most close and order packs at a rate of four strips of command to twenty of line. I can vary this proportion on request. Mounted Command strips are included in most packs at a rate of three strips of command to twelve of line. I can vary this proportion on request.

Cavalry and Light Infantry are supplied on strips based in file.  They must therefore be separated and mounted separately for basing.

ARMY PACKS

I currently offer three army deals based on three main groups of rules:

  • DBA and DBM using a 15mm ground scale. For DBA the army pack is based on 4 strips per base and will provide all options. For DBM the basis is two strips per element and all compulsories plus a number of optional choice are included.

  • DBA using a 25mm ground scale - the SPECTACULAR way to use 6mm. The large bases are packed with 6mm figures in order to create superb looking formations that make the twelve element army actually look like a force to be reckoned with. Once you use these, games in any other scale will never look the same again! The army packs provide for a fixed 12 elements
  • Massed Ancient Games Such As Warmaster Ancients etc. (MAGSAWMA) based on three 40mm x 20mm bases per unit. The MAGSAWMA armies give 1000 point strong armies

    • If your favoured rules don't feature above I can custom-build army packs. Please contact me for more details. Thus far I have provided armies for players of Armati, WAB, Shock of Impact and WRG.

    BUY BY THE UNIT

    Given the recent number of entrants to the Ancients's rules market it is impossible for me to offer different army packs for every. What I can do is let you design your own ideal army and then buy the specific units that you need to build it. The Buy by Unit option will allow you to choose from 60mm based units, 40mm based units and for 'Massed Ancients Games such as Warmaster Ancients'.
