Phil McFadyen ANGLO-DUTCH ARMY
I've had no experience with 6mm figures before. At various stands I've
displayed my work on the comments I've received for my 15mm figures have
been "my there so small" and "how do you do it" but
I used to quip back that there are figures that are 6mm and even 2mm but
I would never paint anything that small! I'd never even contemplated 6mm
but for Peter's offer of a free DBR army. I'm always looking for challenges
that stretch my horizons as well as 6mm I'm trying 90mm as well. I've been painting historicals as a hobby for 18months and for another 18 months I've been painting full time. The figures. The figures are surprisingly detailed for the size, as far as quality
is concerned not having anything to do with this size I was unsure of
level of quality that is expected so I will list the problems below.
The painting process. I decided to paint in the sequence as per Peter's "How to" I gave all the little fellows a warm bath and scrub in soapy water. At first I thought that the only flashing was on the rifles of the infantry
but after priming I saw that I had a little bit to do on the back of hats,
belts and top of tunic on some horse also top and sides of hats on some
of the infantry. Priming I used vallejo game color #2 using a brush so that I didn't obscure
any of the detail the more I did the more I liked these little fellows
it was a little tedious getting it into all the little nooks and carneys
but it was worth it. As I used white primer and prefer white basecoat I painted the tunics
of the British with vallejo vermilion #947.For the Dutch tunics, I used
plaid navy blue #403 and medium grey #425. Brown hair sounded nice so I chose plaid nutmeg #944 for the stock as
well. Facings was a good selection of colours plaid lemon custard #735, english
mustard #959, vallejo vermilion #947,Plaid hunter green #406 and skintone
#949. Buff for cartridge box ,baldric and sword scabbard I again used english
mustard #959. If it's got it I like to paint it so I did the waist belt
