Hello,

To answer your second question first. Look at

https://www.perry-miniatures.com/pages.php?page=continental-militia-forces-in-sa

https://www.perry-miniatures.com/pages.php?page=british-saratoga-campaign

https://www.perry-miniatures.com/pages.php?page=german-saratoga-campaign

They are all very current and well reserched,

Is the battle a good choice? Well both forces were a good mix of troop types and uniforms. The links above all come from a well know 28mm figure range (sorry Peter) website, but are very transferable to 6mm.

Hello LEmpereur!

I think Freeman's Farm is an excellent choice. As mentioned by Baron Clenawly there is a good mix of troop types and uniforms. All can be supplied by Baccus. The battle itself can unfold in a number of ways, depending on what course of action the players take. I've played the battle at least three times and everyone was exciting right down to the last turn.

Please keep us posted on how you move your project along.

Best regards,

Glenn

Always préparing Our Order to play the battle of Freeman's Farm, some question about the composing of the units... We have not find the information on any pages :

  • Pages 31-32 of RdG rules the "bases" column indicated a number... it seems to be the numbre of bases for the unit. For example, the Morgan's rifles have 3 bases. is not it ?
  • The "Modifiers" column is difficult to understand... so many letters! Is the following is true ?
    • the Morgan's rifles (3 x WS), WS = Well Trained Skirmisher ? so 3 bases of skirmishers with 4 to 8 figures ?
    • the 1st New Hampshire (2 x T) is Trained and need 2 bases of 24 figures on 2 ranks ? but no skirmisher !
    • 2nd Massachussets (3 x W, 1 base S) is Well Trained and need 3 bases of 24 figures on 2 ranks + 1 base of skirmishers with 4 to 8 figures ?
  • On the "Rating" column what is the "TP"? some have 1, some 2, some none...

Thanks for help

:-)

Hello LEmpereur!

Yes the "Bases" column is the total number of bases used. So Morgan's Rifles has 3 Bases.

Page seven shows what most of the letters represent P = Poorly Trained, T= Trained, W= Well Trained. S is not shown but it represents Skirmishers, a base of 4-8 figures.

So yes Morgan's Rifles has 3 bases of (WS) Well Trained Skirmishers all 4-8 figures.

Yes, the 1st New Hampshire has 2 bases of (T) Trained, both with 24 figures and no Skirmishers.

No, the 2nd Massachusetts has 3 bases of (T) Trained, 2 are 24 figures and 1 is Skirmisher with 4-8 figures. The 1st Canadian has 3 bases of (W) Well trained, 2 are 24 figures and 1 is Skirmisher with 4-8 figures.

The rating column reflects the rating of the commander and his inherent TP (Tempo Points). See page 13.

Hope this clears it up for you. If not please let me know and if you have any other questions just ask.

Best regards,

Glenn

Hello all!

We are moving on to Our Project and here are the last questions ... let's hope so!

So for the battle Freeman's Farm :

  • When a regiment have several bases,  what is your choice: to put a command by base or command on one base and not on the others?
  • What type of regiment can be made with the reference "AWL01 - Loyalist Infantry- Formed" in this scenario?
  • We want to mix the 3 german AWI references (line, grenadiers and fusilliers) in the german regiment… is it good idea ? If yes, what is the ration ?
  • As we read on the Perry website for british troops, the Acland grenadiers regroup grenadiers compagny’s of different regiment. Is it the same for the Mengen grenadiers ?

Thanks for help!

Should you decide to pursue this project beyond Freeman's Farm I would reccomend 'A Devil of a Whipping - the Battle of Cowpens' by Lawrence E Babits. It has a comprehensive breakdown of the forces involved, the formations adopted (with diagrams) and detailed maps which follow the course of the battle as it unfolded.

A little goes a long way
