TOPIC: Renaissance Turks? |
Standard User Posts: 5 sgarnerteng 20th Apr 2024 07:32:29 Has anyone examined the new Ottoman range with a view to using them for earlier periods, particularly the 16th century? I am no expert on this but it looks like a very workable idea to me and I wondered if anyone with more specialist knowledge could offer their thoughts; preferably before the end of the month...... |
TheJanissaries and other infantry look useable. Never seen a representation of Renaissance Turk cavalry wearing those tall hats. You may want to look at mixing in particularly infantry with bow and various types of cavalry from the Saracen figures in the Crusades range. Also earlier Turkish heavy artillery tended to be on bombard style carriages with four wheels. A pity the armoured cavalry don't have a photo. You could try a Google search of images of C16th Turk or Ottoman armies and compare with the Baccus figures in the Saracen and Sudan ranges.

Earlier 16thC Janissaries would have the Matchlock Musket or bow and swords. So there are 3 options listed for these. Janissaries, however, did prefer hand to hand combat as this offered them the most kudos in battle. Azab infantry would have the Arquebus or bow. The Timariot and Qapu Khalqi Sipahis were heavy cavalry with bow and sword so use perhaps CIS14 - Mameluke Cavalry, Bow - Armoured horses. Crimean Tartars I would use Hun horse archers. Bedouin light cavalry use the Bedouins from the Mahdist range. Djanbazan and Akincis light cavalry used bows, Deli and Kurd light cavalry used spears. Not sure as to what figures to use for these at the moment. Through the travail of the ages Midst the pomp and toil of war Have I fought and strove and perished Countless times upon this star.
