Any guidelines/tips on painting the new range of Highlanders? |

No hatching, lines, cheques or patterns. I then added a brown ink wash and left it at that. I had people at Salute repeatedly asking me how I'd managed to get the tartan patterns on the plaids, to which I smiled knowingly....
I have plans. I am dangerous when I have plans... |

I’ve never attempted any patterns on kilts. Although l did somehow manage to paint an odd looking pattern on some socks and bands on shakos. Just don’t look too close! However, many years ago l did see a pattern kilt painted on some of Baccus Napoleonic highlanders. |

Seriously, though, Peter's painting of those Highlanders is excellent. I see what he means about people seeing tartan that isn't actually there. The brain fills in what doesn't really exist.
