I bought some Amazons recently for my granddaughter, for her first army. We were planning to do an ancients campaign but she wanted Amazons, so we've drifted into a bit of fantasy. I found my copy of Royal Armies of the Hyborian Age, and rediscovered the Hyborian War PBEM site and now I've been bitten by the bug to change the campaign into a Hyborian Age Campaign. So I'm now looking through the catalogue for proxies for the various Hyborian Armies. Has anyone already done this? and if so, do they have any suggestions regarding proxies? or any other suggestions for that matter.

Achaemenid Persians as Stygians is a popular choice. Picts as Picts but I dont know if there is any in the Baccus range. Aqulionians as War of the Rose or Crusaders. Northern barbarians as Vikings.Shem as Saracens

The Hordes of the Things army lists have a very good summery of Hyborian armies. The northern barbarians are Vikings, Picts are North American Indians, Shem are Persians, Stygia are Ancient Egyptians, Vendhya are Indians, Khitai are Chinese.There are Western States (eg Argos or Zamora) which are Medieval European and Eastern and Black Nations (eg Kush or Turan) which are like Saracens or Mongols.I haven't tried it but you should be able to find everything somewhere in the baccus catalogue. When I wanted 20mm HOTT armies I used the Zvezda and Italeri plastics. The Russian Knights were perfect for the look I wanted.

@ Eric.Henderson thanks for the tip about the HOTT lists, I followed that up with a search online and found lists for DBA, DBM, Armati, and Vis Magica. The DBA and Vis Magica lists are on defunct sites on the Wayback Machine, the DBA site actually has three image files with banners for about 20 different armies. They're made by Mike Stelzer, so be sure to credit him if you use them. I'll post the links below for all three.

Between HOTT, DBA, DBM, Armati, Vis Magica, RATHA, Hyborian War, and both of your suggestions I should be able to come up with a decent list of proxies and some fairly good lists.

Any suggestions for Hyborian Age Picts? I'm looking for something in a loincloth and no shield. With options for Bow, Javelin, Tomahawk, Knife and/or Sling. I thought of North American Indians, but can't seem to find any without muskets, (at least in 6mm)
