I'm working on the assumption I can substitute AWI highlanders as SYW ones.  Uniforms look pretty close - anyone done this?  Any issues?

Yes, I did it a number of years ago. I think they were a pretty close match at the time. I even used them for 1815 until I managed to get the correct ones. I've always got nothing but complements no matter what period I used them for.
