Having just finished painting a small 15mm Buccaneer army for DBR, I found myself wondering whether it would be possible do one in 6mm.  The Spanish Guerillas seem to be possibilities for musket armed pirates, as do some of the Boers.  However, I can't bring to mind anything for pirates with half-pikes or cutlasses. Has anyone got any suggestions for half-pike or cutlass armed sea-going gentlemen of informal morality?

I have a feeling that the Colonial Spanish opposition would be really easy to do with Baccus figures, looking at at ECW/TYW range, with perhaps a few Wars of the Roses figures.

Thanks in anticipation.

I am likewise interested in this topic and appreciate the ideas you have suggested. Would love to see a small range of Buccaneers with a listing of appropriate proxies. I have come across a line of 300 scale sailing vessels in paper from The War Artisan that I am using. I hope that it expands but it is certainly a place to start.

Could you use sword-armed Celts for pirates with swords?

This is something I started squirrelling away figures for a few years ago and put the project on the back burner. Sword-armed celts don't really work because of the shields. I had planned to mix Dacian Bastarnae with some Mahdhist infantry and ECW clubmen (these were in the old ECW range and are presumably awaiting a resculpt with the revamp of that range), possibly with some of the levantine infantry in the Ottoman range. Also, there were rumours a while back that sword and bucklermen might eventually be fielded with the revamp of the ECW/TYW range.

I've no real plans to do any jolly pirates or such riff-raff, but you may wish to do some conversion work from the WEC musket command.

I have plans.   I am dangerous when I have plans...

Peter Pig has a range of 4mm pirates and ships.

A little goes a long way
