TOPIC: Saxon Army - 1740s - 1750s (WSS/7YW) |
Standard User Posts: 10 UlyssesSockdrawer 8th Aug 2023 06:59:58 I've started a project recently to recreate the entire Saxon army of the 1740s and 1750s. The collection will work for the War of the Austrian Succession (with units at their full strength) and post-Pirna during the Seven Years War, with units reduced in strength. Flags are TBD, once I have a working printer again and can do the graphics work to set them up as I like them. The figures are based for my own work in progress ruleset. Figures used are all from the Prussian 7YW range.
Leibgrenadiergarde Regiment Minckwitz Infantry Regiment
Prinz Friedrich August Regiment
Grenadierbataillon Kurprinzessin (post-1757 and the surrender at Pirna, when they were equipped as hat men from Austrian stores). |
They look great but I think you mean the War of Austrian Succession (1740-48) and not Spanish Succession (1700-14). |
Standard User Posts: 10 UlyssesSockdrawer 9th Aug 2023 07:47:38 You are right of course - I've had Marlborough on the brain recently. I prefer to collect and paint each regiment as a full 6 base unit (5 hat men, 1 grenadier), and then if a scenario calls for brigade scaled units, mixing a few bases from each into units as appropriate. |
Those are very nice indeed. A little goes a long way |
Is 'Marlborough on the brain' catching? If it is I think I caught it :) |
Standard User Posts: 10 UlyssesSockdrawer 10th Aug 2023 03:56:12 That makes sense! My homebrew set sees units between 2 bases and 6 bases (with a few exceptions, for small single base detachments). I use 25mm square bases (near as damnit to an inch), with 15 figures per base in three ranks. Thank you for all the compliments on the figures. The next regiment on the bench is the Saxon Foot Guards: |
Standard User Posts: 10 UlyssesSockdrawer 20th Aug 2023 08:19:32 Apologies in advance for the terrible focus in the second picture. The Saxon Foot Guards are completed. A quick overview photo of the project as a whole so far - 390 figures in line: The frontage of the line is around 25 inches currently, with the 25mm square bases slightly smaller than a true inch. |
Standard User Posts: 10 UlyssesSockdrawer 27th Aug 2023 06:52:03 Another regiment completed. Well, minus their basing (and flags, for which at some point I'll need to buy a proper printer as the current one isn't up to scratch.) This is IR Prinz Maximilian in close-up. |
Very nice painting style. A little goes a long way |
Standard User Posts: 10 UlyssesSockdrawer 29th Aug 2023 07:34:50 Thank you! Another 90 infantry for IR Konigin will be on the desk soon, then the small Grenadier Battalion Kurprinzessin. After that - perhaps some artillery for a change, before tackling more infantry. |
