The biggest little Army?

I have recently "completed" my 6mm Early Imperial Roman army. The first figures were daubed in 2012 and the varnish on the last of the 1,251 figures has now dried.

How many of you have a single army (as opposed to a whole collection) with more figures?

Hi David

I am slightly ahead of you with my ACW union  army 1,687 in total.

55 infantry brigades, 6 cavalry, 28 artillery and 7 generals.

Having said that I used to have 5000 Napoleonic French infantry (H&R) alone but got rid of them ages ago. I have just started the madness again with Baccus figs. I don't think I will get to these numbers but why not....

I knew  wouldn't be top of the podium for long!

I suppose the follow up questions are do you have a playing surface big enough for them and an opposition to take them on? I think my Romans will just about fit my playing surface and if all my Greeks form an alliance (something they struggled to do historically) they would total about 1,570 figures and if my Persian Xerxes were to mobilise his own army and those of his five satraps, I'd have to try to squeeze nearly 2,300 figures on to one side of the battlefield.

Impractical for my table. Consequently I have many smaller armies.

Recently fought Antietam, I also provided the Confererates. Using a 6x4 table and Alter of Freedom rules we had a 4 player game that lasted a full day. first time using the rules as a group so many lessons were learnt but there seemed to be plenty of room to maneover and explore the flanks. I only have a few low resolution shots but will look them out and post so you get an idea.  Mind I hadn't painted the limbers at that stage so not sure how congested it would have been if I had deployed 28 of them.

That's why I do Altar of Freedom in 3mm with reduced frontage and depth. That way I get the full battlefield and room to manoeuvre on a 5x3. I use the Baccus 2/3 inch ruler in almost all my games.

Yes, I have a few armies that have more than 1251 figures in them: Marian Romans, and Napoleonic French, Spanish and Anglo-Portuguese for the Peninsular War, and Napoleonic Austrians.
