hello all!

I have started a 1859/66 austrian army with the aim of painting every unit on a basis of 1 base=1 regiment, 4 artillery bases=1 artillery regiment. Probably going to use black powder rules once i get my Austrians and Italians painted up.

Anyhow here we have Infantry regiments no 1,2,3 & 8.(left to right on the bottom pic) I have painted their blankets and drums in the same shade as there facing colours and im pretty sure im not 100% historically accurate (the result of using games workshop paints!) I have also used the yellow flags for German regiments and the white flags for Hungarian regiments. Next up infantry regiments no 4,5,6 & 7.

comments etc welcome! photo IMAG0553_zpscs3f6mp8.jpg

Very nice ! Im planning to do the wars of 1859 & 1866 myself. Yours look great ! But first i gotta finish my FPW Project.

How do you handle Formations with Black Powder ? Unfortunately i dont have enough Room to use 1 Base = 1 Unit in BP. With Polemos i am playing 2 bases = 1 Brigade

Cheers

Thanks Mollinary i have both the Osprey books and whilst they are good i do think the books on the French and Prussian amries are better, for instance the uniform detail in the Austrian books go to a minute detail space which could have been used to better describe recruitment, battle tactics or even the artillery arm. I knew when i typed blankets that they werent that my mind must have gone blank! In regards to the greatcoats i painted them in the regiments facing colour just to add abit of colour to the regiments, and i was aware of the flags but i used them to differenciate between the German and Hungarian line.

Thanks Oppi well my Austrian brigades will be 2 line bases and 1 jager base so my basing will be similiar to yours. I dont know how it will handle in Black Powder as im yet to play a game!

So for your viewing (dis)pleasure i have 1 Kiaserjager and 1,2,3 feldjager battalions, again i have deviated from the uniform by painting the Kaiserjagers slung greatcoats grass green just to make them stand out from the feldjagers. Sorry about the pics there from my phone! Next up are the hussars (god i hate painting horses!) I also ordered some Italians from Peter so they will be making a appearance. Possibly.......!

P.s the Kaiserjagers are bottom right.

Thanks! sorry about the pic size and quality again im taking the snaps on my camera phone then resizing them on photobucket. Now we have the hussar regiments number 1-5 (left to right on the middle and bottom pics) hopefully you can tell the difference between the regiments (different shako colours and either light blue or dark blue uniforms) I really hate painting cavalry! i would rather paint 8 line regiments than 5 cavalry! Next up is the artillery which i found to be amazing sculpts, the crew have tons of detail wel done Peter and co!

Im back! just finished 4x 4pdr batteries from the 1st artillery regiment. (I may add a heavy battery to each regiment as the project continues) I have written all regimental (and battery) numbers on the back and underneath the bases for ease of reference. I want to do a campaign in which units/commanders upgrade or downgrade depending on there battlefield performance so units reference is important. The 4 battereies of the 2nd regiment need some flock on there bases which ill get done tonight and then next will be 3 regiments of kuirassiers and 2 regiments of dragoons.

No comments on the cavalry or artillery? well here's some more! I've painted the 2nd artillery regiment and the only 2 regiments of dragoons the Austrians had in 1866. I have painted there facing colours different shades of red i dont know if that will show in the pics! I've nearly finished 3 regiments of kuirassiers then on to the officers, i'm thinking 1 officer= brigade commander, 2 officers= division commander (cavalry only for Austrians), 4 officers = Korps commanders, 5+= army commanders.  I painted the Austrian cavalry horse equipment red even though it was grey by 1866 because a, i had already finished the Hussars before i realised and b, it looks cooler than grey!

Below are the 1st and 2nd artillery regiments or a 1-1 scale battery!
