My tip:

The (often suggested) dressmakers pins are way too thick and are more likely to break free from the phalangite because they don't give way on impact. Use the plastic bristles from a cheap broom instead: they come in many different diameters and lenths and don't break off that easily!

Meanwhile I've found that someone else already suggested this way back in 2015.

Not really my credit therefore, unless re-inventing the wheel would count as geniality...
