I used a Flockit machine, which is essentially the same thing. So yes, basically. There's a guide to making them here:

What colours do you use to paint the thatch? It looks very authentic

Vallejo Tan Yellow over Dark Earth I think. Then Iraqi sand. Maybe a few other sandy colours.
