Preferably a set dedicated to 7YW, not "can be used for" 7YW. Die Kreigskunst from what I've read seems appealing. Is anyone playing these rules, and specifically, are you using 6mm figs with them and do they work? |
I am playing Honours of War by Keith Flint, published by Osprey. These rules were written purely for the Seven Years War in the European theatre. Having played SYW wuth several different sets over the years, this has now become my go to set of rules for the SYW. Simple mechanics, army lists, scenarios and QRSs in a number of scales (including 6mm) are all in the book. Furthermore there is an excellent website run by Keith Flint which provides all the QRSs as free downloads, as well as additional scenarios to download and a discussion forum for rules queries, figure galleries, AARs, player scenarios, new SYW products on the market and so on. This was the best £12.99 I have ever invested in a set of rules and cannot recommend them highly enough. A little goes a long way |

For SYW I still use either Might and Reason or more these days) Maurice, both by Sam Mustafa. |
Oh dear, Abenson. It seems you will have to dowhat I did, i.e. try out various rules yourself and see what suits your style of play most. Might and Reason did absolutely nothing for me. Maurice is a very nice card driven system. I still use this but only as an imaginary campaign driver with my gaming buddies. It doesn't suit my personal taste for refighting historical scenarios. My copy of ''Honours of War'' arrived yesterday, and so far I'm enjoying the read through. They look as though they will be an enjoyable set of rules. As dourpuritan says, however, it's all about personal preferences. Hope you find something to your satisfaction. |
It is interesting that nobody as yet has made any comment about Kriegskunst. A little goes a long way |

I did purchase HoW, the Kindle edition is only $10. It reads well :) we'll see how it plays. Now that Might and Reason has been mentioned, it seems to me I have that somewhere; I had completely forgotten. I'll have to see if I can find it. (The woes of being a rules collector.) |

Perhaps the Prussians are overrated a bit, but one can always rein them in with house ammendments. I would recommend a look. |
One of the reasons I stopped playing Black Powder was the overrated Prussians. The other was the constant referral back to unit stats, which I find a total pain. A little goes a long way |
