Mortem et Gloriam/Renatio et Gloriam

Hi guys,

It's been a while, sorry. Nobody in Belgium wanted to play with sixes, unfortunately. :-(

In recent months I've become involved in a group that plays Mortem et Gloriam (https://mortem-et-gloriam.co.uk/meg/) at 15mm, an interesting gaming system aimed at Ancients and Medievals.

Soon, there will be a Renaissance (https://renatio-et-gloriam.co.uk/wp/) (read 1500-rougly 1750) version of it, and two of us are planning on trying it out. Of course I had to draw attention to Baccus 6mm. No-one has started on it yet here in the BeNeLux/Northern France, so we migh try and set the standard.

The average infantry unit for the 18th century consists of 6 bases, cavalry 4. I was thinking, what if we stick to the DBA-inspired basing (40x20mm for infantry, 40x30mm for cavalry) these rules use, but glue those full of 6mm figures? An infantry base should take 6 strips for example.

Do any of you have any experience with this type of stuffed bases and/or pictures of what that would look like?

I have stuck 2 strips behind eachother on a 20x20mm base before and that left plenty of room for one row more.

I'd be interested in your opinions and/or pictures.

Cheers,

I have arrived in the Netherlands with my 6mm, 10mm, 15mm and 28mm armies (and 3mm ACW). MEG is not really for me, but I do play lots of other rules. I have not taken to rules designed for competition play and now do mostly solo, but I do at least have 6mm figures in the Benelux region.

A little goes a long way

Hi!

I'm a MeG player and with my group we agreed to use 60x20mm bases for infantry, and 60x30 for cavalry.

Playing ancients, this choice allows us to field three rows of 12 man per base (wich is the standard base widht), so that 2 bases represent more or less a century (72 Man out of 80 for my Romans). The effect is gorgeous, and we have great battles. I deploy my Tugs in 4-6 bases (as per centuria prior and posterior), while my worst enemy plays Macedonians: imagine a unit of phalangites that's made up from 8 bases, it's 300 spears pointing toward you per single TuG. And he must deploy at least two of them, plus hyspaspist, allied hoplites amd cavalry. It's really gorgeous.

The only, adn sadly main, problem is that it's not a standard front for tournements, so of you intend to play competitive around the world, stick with 40x20 and 40x30. Otherwise you can play (Simon Hall, MeG author, poster a video about using different base sizes), but it can become a little awkward. It's possible, but a bit more complicated for wound tracking ;)

Have fun and welcome to MeG!

pS. Sorry for any error, my corrector is keeping to translate English in my home lamguage
