Last night I ran down to the Liberty Hobby Center in Wheaton, Il and ran a 6mm SYW game: the Battle of Torgau, using the Might & Reason rules by Sam Mustafa. I tweaked it quite a bit as I was teaching the game to most all of the players. We had 5 Prussian and 4 Austrian players, 3 observers and myself. The Austrians deplyed holding the river without knowing the Prussian deployment. They put almost the entire army on a very narrow front on one flank. Despite rookie mistakes, GM blunders, and trying to figger this whole thing out, we had a good bash. Marshall Daun was captured we learned how fast cavalry can really move, and I finally solved the inter-penetration question. We will be doing it again next Monday night. New scenario, same players (mostly). Naturally as I was so busy I only took one photo, using a periscope. Enjoy. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/295/20291589249_83a702c398_z.jpg Mark "Extra Crispy" Severin |
Standard User Posts: 87 I am a spambot 12th Aug 2015 06:05:26 Looks very nice indeed. I have not tried 'Might and Reason'. Does it use cards instead of dice to determine some things? I understand that some other rules by Sam Mustafa do. |
Hello Spambot: Might & Reason is one of his earlier designs. It takes the command and control of "Grande Armee" and applies it to the SYW. So no cards. Here is a summary of the game mechancis on my hobby sote (sorry about the missing pictures): http://deepfriedhappymice.com/html/rd_might_reason.html Mark "Extra Crispy" Severin |
Standard User Posts: 12 Dr Mike 12th Aug 2015 05:19:32 Might & Reason is a wonderful ruleset by Sam Mustaffa - and one of the main sets that drew me into 6mm. May have a problem getting a copy as I undestand they have been out of print a while now. :-( |
Agreed - wonderful set of rules. Happily you can download a copy (the printed book is B&W mostly anyway) from Sam for a mere $20. And he has loads of good scenarios available as well. Check out SamMustafa.com Mark "Extra Crispy" Severin |
