One of the ambitions of the long report format is to tell the story from the perspective of each commander without any reference to the rules. Of course, the true measure of success is how often I go back and read my own reports. |

This time their non-historically matched opponents were two of my Persian satraps. In the photograph, one of the Persian satraps - Cyrus - finds his own cavalry suddenly under attack by the Trinovante warbands and Cunobeline in his chariot. Further along more Trinovante warbands, with some Dumnonii support, wildly charge towards the Persian infantry on the left. In the far distance, the other Persian satrap rounds the wooded rise as the Deceangli thread their way across a river crossing. This time Xerxes and his field army took on four of my Near Eastern armies. In the photograph, the Persian sparabara shieldwall is forming on the right with the Immortals clustered around the hill. The infantry of Herod of Judea have just charged some of the Immortals whilst the cavalry fom Osrhoene skirmish with the Persian line infantry. Other troops from the Near Eastern alliance are rushing to the near flank to counter the threat of the recently arrived Persian cavalry. The Thracians took on an unhistorical coalition of the Parthians and the army of the Queen of Sheba. In the photograph - near to the camera - some Thracians try to sneak around a wood. Off to the left, the Queen of Sheba balances on crags with her personal escort whilst she watches her troops and the Parthians fan out to face the rest of the Thracian army advancing from the right. Great looking terrain to augment your figures. A little goes a long way |
![]() Standard User Posts: 255 Little battles with AncientsDavid Kay 19th Nov 2025 08:08:39 Thanks for the feedback. At 6mm the scenery does seem to scale better for the figures than at larger scales. The trees forming the wood in the foreground are those discussed reently in the Terrain section of the Forum. |
