What I am in the process of doing is buying sheets of fridge magnets, 70mm x 20mm and I will cut to rule basing requirements. At that size I can also use 1/2400 scale ships or smaller etc. I also use them for 2mm miniatures as well. At the moment the magnets are holding well. I've has a 'troop' of 6mm cavalry (10 horsemen) on a whiteboard for a couple of weeks and they haven't moved in all that time. They are on a 40mm x 20 mm magnet. As far as ease of use, I find it easy to pick up the base either by the figures themselves (they have several layers of dullcoate/or gloss equivalent) or by lifting one end first - this from a metallic surface, ortherwise the same for table use, or simply push them across the plexiglas covered map. No doubt other mods will come to mind in future, but that what I do now. I must say that one of the main reasons for me to go this path is the 'grand move' scheduled for next year, when I will transport the mini's in old metal tins then to be placed in boxes for the container. Hope this helps, michael

I went for a thicker magentic sheet (1.5 mm) so I wouldn't need to cut two bases. It is slightly flexible but has shown no signs of cracking. |
