TOPIC: napoleonic french flags |
Standard User Posts: 137 mangemani 14th Jun 2017 01:50:27 my first try to putting on those french flags ended in, well, a total failure, wasted 3 flags so far. the thing is that they do not fit on the poles, the pole itself is to short and that big eagle decoration takes up so much space. as i see it, at the moment, is to lose the eagle by cutting it of or to trim down the flag with a scissor, which i tried which ended up looking to thin. how do you guys put on the napoleonic french flags? you must have encountered the same problem as i have i suspect. |
Standard User Posts: 137 mangemani 14th Jun 2017 02:01:35 to clearify, the pole section inbetween the bottom edge of the eagle and the top of the hat is to short, the height of the flag is greater and naturally dont fit. |
Standard User Posts: 428 njt236 14th Jun 2017 02:42:00 Do not cut off the Eagle. This was the symbol of the Regiment much like the eagle was to the Roman legions. To lose an Eagle was a disgrace as was losing the standard to a British regiment or the loss of the guns to the artillery The flag was of secondary importance. In some cases they just carried the eagle without the flag. Through the travail of the ages Midst the pomp and toil of war Have I fought and strove and perished Countless times upon this star. Standard User Posts: 137 mangemani 14th Jun 2017 03:02:44 it seems, when looking at the baccus pics, that they just put on the flag over the eagle, but i dont like the look of that. so i guess my only option is to cut the flag thiner? it dosent look good that either, looks more of a banner. so what do i do? |
French flags were small: The flag on the left is accurate to scale. I can't remember if I ever used the flags from Baccus or not when doing my French, but I don't remember encountering this problem. Most wargamers use French flags rather bigger than the original. Does that help any? |
