TOPIC: Little battles with Ancients |
Standard User Posts: 188 David Kay 1st Oct 2020 08:50:52 After a bit of a break over the summer, my little men took over the dining room table again. The Trinovantes faced a Near Eastern (and possibly historically accurate) alliance of Armenians and Parthians. Photo shows the lines closing at an early stage in the battle. For those with time on their hands, reports are available on my website. |

Standard User Posts: 188 David Kay 30th Oct 2020 09:09:42 Another opportunity arose to take over the dining room table for awhile. Three of my Persian satraps try an invasion of Judea but are met by Herod and his army. Photo shows an early stage of the battle with the main part of both armies closing in the distance whilst a "home guard" musters in the town in the foreground. More photos (some in focus) along with more detailed reports on my website. |

Greeks are playing from the right with the Spartans in the far distance (in red) and the Athenians close to (in blue). The Romans advance from the left with their cavalry about to skirmish with the Greek line. Reports (with more photos) on my website (www.veryverylittlewars.wordpress.com) for those putting off testing out the Christmas lights. |
Standard User Posts: 188 David Kay 24th Jan 2021 05:57:05 First battle of the new year and a Persian satrap tries to invade Greece (again). In the photo, the threat of the advancing Persian cavalry have forced the troops on the Greek right flank to retreat into the wood. In distance, the Greek hoplites advance towards the Persian infantry line. Reports available on my website (www.veryverylittlewars.wordpress.com) for those with lots of time on their hands (in present circumstances - certainly in the UK). |
Standard User Posts: 188 David Kay 11th Feb 2021 09:11:43 With bad weather forecast I had the opportunity for another battle. A few Greeks were used to test out my Commagene army in its very latest configuration. Linking back to another discussion thread, most of the figures on the battlefield are Baccus but the horse archers attempting the outflank are Irregular models. More photos and details on my website for those interested. |
Standard User Posts: 188 David Kay 16th Apr 2021 08:13:53 Bad weather gave the opportunity for the little fellas to take over the dining room table again. This time the army of Herod of Judea faced up to an alliance of Thebes and Thessaly. In the photo some of Herod's provincial troops hold a bit of desert against the Greek cavalry as the Theban hoplites (playing in yellow) advance in the distance against the main line. More photos and details on my website. |
Standard User Posts: 188 David Kay 25th Apr 2021 04:26:57 And another outing for my little chaps and not a hoplite in sight this time as my Trinovantes (Ancient British) took on two Persian satraps and their field armies. In the distance the Persian cavalry start to shoot at the main warbands whilst a Trinovante chieftain in his chariot tries to sneak around the near flank. |
Standard User Posts: 188 David Kay 18th May 2021 01:16:02 I dusted off my Spartans to take on my latest Persian satrapal army in what proved to be a tough encounter made even more challenging by the terrain. In the photo, the Spartan hoplites close on the Persian infantry from the right, whilst beyond the wood the Persian cavalry try to sneak round. Report available on my website for those with time on their hands. |
Standard User Posts: 188 David Kay 12th Jun 2021 07:50:22 My Armenians (with a few new units) and supported by some Parthians try to take a settlement. Will the Athenian relief force get there in time? In the photograph the citizens of the town huddle in their citadel in the far distance whilst the two forces approach each other. |
