Very nice work now the pictures are showing. I know relatively little about the Napoleonic period, so not sure whether the infantry would have thrown skirmishers forward. I know they were used in the later C19th, which I favour, and my units benefit from having some skirmishers out front.

Looking great.

Just one observation/question.  Have you considered using a cloth to make the terain?  The 6 mm figures are quie light so I have had success with using underlay foam to create the land form with a cloth draped over.  I feel it gives a more natural looking battlefield.  The bases then tend to nestle into it as well rather than sit rigidly proud of the landform.

@dourpuritan, yes, skirmishers should definitely be a big part of Napoleonic battles.  I've got another Baccus order in right now for a couple packs of skirmishers.  Still trying to decide though if I want to just put 1-3 skirmishers forward on these bases or to base skirmishers separately.  I'm kind of undecided what ruleset I'll be using, likely to try a few.

@jon1066, I'm the worst at anything terrain related.  What terrain I have in my collection currently I bought pre-painted for my 28mm skirmish games, so I'm still trying to figure out what to do for 6mm.  I've seen suggestions for shaping foam blocks and painting cloth but it all looks like a mess to get into.  Maybe something I'll learn along the way.

I use the hex system from Kallistra for my little guys (see photos under the Little Battles thread). They do make some non-hex features too. The hills and slopes seem to give the right visual effect at this scale and I use the hex as the unit of measurement for both movement and shooting ranges.

I checked out your blog David, those look like amazing battles, well done!  The hex system looks interesting, kinda like taking Commands & Colors to another level.

Becasue the models are very light you don't need to go the hole hog and sculpt the underlying hills.  Foam carpet underlay holds up perfectly well.  If you can get some off cuts you can just cut them into rough contours with scissors then drape the cloth over the top.  It gives you natural looking relief for very minimal time and effort (and cost!)

eg you can see the ground rising in the background here

The main outlay would be a commercial cloth if you didn't fancy trying to colour your own (I bought one that would do for 28 or 6 mm)

That looks really good.  I'll need to find a cloth like that.

Can you tell me about the trees in the background?  They look really good for this scale.

I have tried Geek Villain fleece cloths. They respond well to underlaid hills using foam contours. I no longer live in the UK, but postage to the Netherlands is not bad at all.

The mat I bought was from Deepcut Studios - pretty sure it is the Plains cloth mat.

The trees are made from upholstery foam blitzed in an old blender died green with craft paints.  To make forests I've glued hanging basket liner to 1" mesh then glued the foam bits to the liner.  You can fit troops under the forest (and then forget about them for some true fog of war).  Individual trees are just bits of that foam impaled on a variety of nails.  A hedge line is a strip of liner with various bits of foam and trees glued to it.

In that picture the forest in the background is just the foam piled on the mat as I hadn't built enough woods at that point.

I've gotten to a little more painting this past week.  Three more regiments of line infantry and four cannons and their crew, and then I painted up a few buildings.

I've got some roads, streams, bridge, and some skirmishing voltigeurs ordered from Baccus - I think it ought to be in next week's queue based on their latest order # update.  In the meantime, I think I'll try to get started on some cavalry.
