In the photo, the Persian sparabara infantry form their wall of pavises on the far side. Nearest camera on the left, the Athenians close for combat with the troops from Argolis trying to plug the gap between them and the Spartans (in red) to the right. Link to battle report for those who have had enough mince pies below. Ho ho! https://veryverylittlewars.wordpress.com/2022/12/18/battle-110-november-2022/

It narks me that in this day and age there is still no single, simple way to post images across all fora. I used to be able to post photos here, but have since forgotten. I can post photos to the HoW forum and also to the Peter Pig forum, but the two methods are completely different, and holding the formula for two different methods in my head is about all I can manage. A little goes a long way |

Certainly that's what I do Dourpuritan. Glad you enjoyed the report Leafs87. |
![]() Standard User Posts: 255 Little battles with AncientsDavid Kay 12th Apr 2023 05:19:09 As the Society of Ancients had chosen an all Greek battle (Mantinea 362BCE) for the subject of thr 2023 Battleday, I thought I had to have a go at trying to re-write history too, given I had a lot of Greek figures in my collection. The Photograph below shows an early stage of the battle with the Theban hoplites advancing in echelon (as they did originally) whilst the troops from Mantinea and Sparta wait on the far side (as they apparently did originally). To find out if my re-fight matched history, see the reports via the link below. https://veryverylittlewars.wordpress.com/2023/04/12/mantinea-362bce-re-fight-april-2023/

![]() Standard User Posts: 255 Little battles with AncientsDavid Kay 6th May 2023 08:28:03 A late start to the 2023 campaign season, but it finally got underway with an outing for my latest Celtic army - the Deceangli - who faced the Persian satrap of Longawayoff. Photograph shows the Persian infantry trying to bottle up the Celts at a road ford, but in the distance a group of Celtic cavalry are crossing the river by another ford. ![]() Standard User Posts: 119 Little battles with AncientsLeafs87 10th May 2023 12:57:39 Hail Xavier! Nice way to kick off the 2023 campaign. Some great shots in there. (esp. the close-ups along the terrain/ground) Another enjoyable battle report, David. |
![]() Standard User Posts: 255 Little battles with AncientsDavid Kay 11th May 2023 08:29:16 Thanks. Xavier's defiant camels (think WW2 aircraft), as they were termed on another site, had a second leg against the Deceangli (same pitch but the teams changed ends). Report now on the website. |
![]() Standard User Posts: 255 Little battles with AncientsDavid Kay 8th Jun 2023 09:02:34 Greeks and Persians take to the battlefield again. In the photograph, the Persian cavalry advance from the left whilst some Thessalian peltasts move against them from the bottom right. In the centre, the Thessalian cavalry commander has become over eager and leads his men on an attack on the Persian infantry centre.
