Another Persian satrap takes to the field, but this time he face some Romans in a bit of a scenario battle. The Romans had a small advance force (by the marching camp in top of the photograph) scouting the border when the Persians (coming in from the left of the photograph) arrived in force. Roman reinforcements are hurrying in from the bottom right across the ford. Their cavalry is now across and the first of the legionary cohorts are now splashing through the ford. Reports of what happened next available via the link below.

Another week and yet another battle! This time the inevitable Greek alliance takes on a typically unhistoric (for them) opponent in the form of Herod of Judea. The photograph shows the two infantry lines closing for combat. The Greeks are advancing from the right with the Theban allies nearest the camera and then the Theban hoplites moving down the slope. Herod's infantry face up to them. In the far distance both sides muck about in a heath. Reports available via the link below.

I finally completed my Armenian army of Tigranes the Lesser and gave them the oppportunity to test themselves against my Trinovantes in a solo battle. In the bottom right of the photograph some of Tigranes' unenthusiastic allies defend a line of hills whilst further in the distance the Celtic warbands advance from the left. Reports available via the link below.

A selection of troops from my extensive Roman army took on my nearly complete Thracian army in a solo battle. In the photograph, the Thracians advance from the right as some Roman cavalry approach from the left. Beyond the wood some Roman auxiliary infantry wait on the hill. Battle reports available via the link below.

This time a more potentially historical encounter as my Athenians took on an alliance of two other Greek armies. In the photograph, the Athenians (in blue) advance from the right with their hoplites trying to keep the advantage of the high ground and their peltasts securing the wood on the right flank. Hoplites from the alliance advance from the left with their cavalry skirmishing with the enemy infantry. Battle reports are available via the link below.

A Near Eastern alliance of Commagene and Emesa were fielded as the first opposition for the recently completed Persian satrapal army of Owtasuburbis. In the photograph, the Persian archers line the hills (on the left) waiting for targets to come within range whilst some of their cavalry threaten the enemy flank but are met by the Commagene cavalry. In the far distance, the Alliance infantry advance from the right to be faced by more Persian cavalry. Battle reports - with more photographs - available via the link below.

My Romans and Spartans faced each other in my final solo battle of 2023. Unfortunately, there was a river between them. Fortunately, there were some fords across the river. In the far distance, the Roman cavalry can be seen crossing one, and nearer to camera, some Roman auxiliiaries guard another ford whilst the legionaires and hoplites glare across the river at each other. Reports of the battle available via the link below.

And for the first solo battle of 2024, my recently completed Thracians took on the army of Herod of Judea. In the photograph, Sitakles, the Odrysian king leads his cavalry in from the flank whilst his infantry emerge from the wooded slopes on the right. Herod's forces approach from the left with his heavy infantry in the centre. Reports of the battle available via the link below.

And another new army takes to the battlefield. This time it is the Near East kingdom of Osrhoene up against the Greeks from Thessaly. In the photograph, the Thessalians advance from the left with Jason, their Tagos, leading a cavalry dash towards the enemy king. Unfortunately for Jason, some enemy cavalry are now behind his right flank, enemy archers turning in on the other flank, and his infantry is lagging behind......

Another small battle, but this time featuring an attack by my Celtic Deceangli tribe on the Greek seaside settlement of Blusterus-sur-mare. The Deceangli are attacking from the left and the defending Greeks of Mantinea have just deployed (at the top of the photograph) from their camp site just beyond the settlement.

Reports to see how the attack went via the link below:
