See Carolus Rise!

9th Nov 2021

I've had a fascination with the Great North War, and especially the exploits of the Swedish army and their king, Charles XII, for over four decades.   I can remember fruitlessly pestering figure manufacturers to produce armies for the period, only to be told that there would be no demand.   As a result, when I started making my own figures through Baccus, one of the very earliest ranges to be sculpted was, quite naturally the Great North War.

Over the years, the figures sold remarkably well, as did the amount of information available for the period, with the result that nowadays, no-one bats an eye at mention of the period and its place in the wargamers' vocabulary is well established.   However, those original moulds have all but collapsed through overuse.   The Swedes were withdrawn from sale a few weeks ago, and it is the Russians turn to make way for the new.  The good news is that the Swedes are now back, better than ever!

We not only offer infantry in hat and karpus, but we also have made available figures charging in that peculiarly Swedish aggressive manner.  Cavalry have likewise been overhauled and once again a choice of headgear is available.   There is now a dedicated range of Swedish generals, and to round it all off, a brand new range of vector drawn flags.   You can see them all here.

But what of the opposition?   The old Russians have run away.   Well, not entirely.   The latest research indicates that the Westernised Russian troops looked pretty much the same as there counterparts elsewhere in Europe.  As a result, there will be no specific Russian figures  for these troops, with castings from the WSS range taking their place with immediate effect.    Work has started on the rest of the range, including the Strelzy, and early war infantry.   As with the Swedes, there are brand new vector drawn flags available.

We will have the full range of the new Swedes on sale at Salute.   Treat yourself with a visit to Per Broden's incredible Poltava game and then come and see us to start your own dive into what is one of the most fascinating periods of history you could every ask for!
