Partizan and a matched pair or two...

27th May 2022

We had a great time at last Sunday’s Partizan show, of which more anon, but first, it’s time for that all important number.   This week, we are up to #20633.  As always, this number is a bit of a moving target, as there will be some numbers before this that won’t go out until next week, and a few after this that have already been sent.

For the second week running, no new codes to report on.  We are just waiting for some bits and pieces to be painted and based and then normal service will be resumed.  However, we have added a couple more of Matched Pair armies to the catalogue.

The Matched Pair series offers two army packs as a package at a better price than getting them as individuals.   This time round, we start in the fourth century BCE with that  classic match-up of Macedonians and Persians, and, by contrast a trip to the 19th Century CE with FPW Imperial French and Prussian armies.

If you would like to make any suggestions for any further additions to the Matched Pairs range, please feel free to join the discussion on the Baccus forum.

And now to Partizan.  What a great show it was!  The ‘buzz’ was there, the games were amazing  - even those featuring figures with extreme scale creep.   What was really heartening to see at a show that is normally a 28mm monoculture was showing a more diverse mix of scales and genres and featured a couple of 6mm games.   The Cold War Commanders staged their awesome ‘Denmark 1984’ spectacular which was a masterclass in modelling and presentation,

while Charles Rowntree presented his smaller, but no less masterful Imjin river game.   As it happens, Charles’ game won the Best Participation Game award, which was a massive result for him given the quality of games he was up against.   Congratulations are well deserved.

It has been a long held view of mine that as a community, we 6mm gamers have too often been reluctant to take games to shows, leaving the floor open to others and giving the impression that we are too few to count and 6mm too lacking in visual impact to matter.   Well, Per Broden’s success in last year’s Salute and Charles’s triumph at Partizan puts a lie to this.  Every year I see wonderful games being staged at the Joy of Six which never see the light of day again.   Let’s get those games out there at wargames shows and give the scale the showcase it deserves.   We all know how brilliant it is to collect and game in 6mm – it’s time we showed that to the rest of the wargames world.

Both the Cold War Commanders’ and Charles’ games will be at the Joy of Six this year.   Get your diary clear and get those travel arrangements made!
